You should have a minimum rest of 48 hours between workouts. If your friend is saying that you can lift weights on your upper body one day and then your lower body the next day then that’s ok. However, if your friend is saying that you can lift weights on your upper body for example on a Monday and then lift weights on the upper body again on Tuesday then he is wrong. If you’re going to work out the same muscle groups then make sure you have 48 hours rest because if you work them every 24 hours that will lead to serious injury. Also by not giving your muscles 48 hours rest you’re not allowing them to rebuild properly. Make sure that if your focusing on the muscles in the upper body or lower body skip a day. For example, workout on Monday, rest Tuesday, workout again Wednesday. On the day you don’t lift weights it wouldn’t hurt to do cardio such as running, swimming, biking, etc.
