What’s the fastest and healthier way to GAIN weight?

Question by Li!: What’s the fastest and healthier way to GAIN weight?
(yeah, you may have seen me post this question in the women’s health section, but I want to see if I can get more answers)

Since I came home from college this summer, I have lost ten pounds but not on purpose. I don’t feel good about it at all because now I’m on the lower borderline of a healthy BMI. I’m female, 5’6″ and 115-118lb which is the lowest I’ve weighed since I was a little shorter and in middle school.

At my college, it’s all-you-can-eat buffet style dining halls 3 times a day, so I always lose weight when I come home, but this time it’s ridiculous. My hip bones are getting more defined, I have little energy, and I sleep half the day.

I am suffering from a bit of depression. I have no motivation to do anything, except go on time wasting websites like Y!Answers and Youtube. I get little to no support from family and people who I have considered “friends”. So, I’m eating less because of this depression.

I’m not paying $ 50-$ 70 an hour, once a week to go to a psychologist or councilor, just for them to tell me that life is good the way it is and I need a new outlook, blah, blah, blah…been there, done that. And I’m not taking a pill every day that virtually does nothing.

What foods/ lifestyle changes would help me gain weight the fastest?
Thus far, no one mentioned the 2nd part of what I wrote, talking about the depression

Gaining weight requires a surplus of calories as well as a good weight lifting program.

Try hitting these macros below.
Eat 1 gram per body weight in protein
Eat 4 times your body weight in carbs
Eat 1/2 your body weight in fat grams

If you’re still not gaining weight, up the macros. You have to make eating a priority especially since you’re probably a hard gainer aka ectomorph.

You also should lift weights b/c you just don’t want to gain belly fat. Compound lifts from free weights is a good starting point. Compound lifts include bench press, dips, pulls ups, push ups, dead lifts, squats, lunges etc. Lean muscle will go a long way.
