Difference of strength training from bodybuilding?



Question by moolerat: Difference of strength training from bodybuilding?
I’ve been reading about weight training in the internet and i can’t find the difference between the two. I’m trying to find a good strength training routine for sports but the sites are saying contradicting things. From what i know high reps with high weights are usually for definition and power, mainly strength training but on one site it says it’s for body building.. Can anyone enlighten me on this? I’m after function and not so much form.
I’m after speed and power, anything that would help in basketball. 🙂

Bodybuilding and powerlifting are very similar however in Bodybuilding the end goal is to look as big and good as possible this involves cardio, recovery sessions, supplementation and very very strick diets. Bodybuilders train for size.

Powerlifters however train for brute strengh and devour everything in their path regardless of whether its healthy or not. Powerlifters train in very low reps (2-5) with extremely long rest periods.

Bodybuilders are more concerned with diet and concerned with appearance than powerlifters. A powerlifter clearly doesn’t care about appearance, as the main goal in the sport of powerlifting is to move as much weight as possible. Proper diet either makes or breaks a bodybuilder’s appearance, and that is why it is imperative for bodybuilders to make smart food choices!

The benefits of bodybuilding is that it will improve your looks significantly and as a result increase your self confidence.

The benefits of powerlifting is that you will be strong as f@#k and still get to enjoy great food (LOTS OF FOOD).

High reps are for bodybuilding, low and very heavy reps for Powerlifting.

Hope this enlightened you to both concepts, my advice would be to start bodybuilding for a few years while your young and then make the switch to powerlifting as you will have greater motivation at a younger age.
