Q&A: How long does it take to see results from weight lifting?

Question by B Mel: How long does it take to see results from weight lifting?
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE ANSWERING

I am going to be taking jack3d for pre workout (simular to no explode) and i will be taking creatine and protein after my workout.

I will be working out every other day.

How long will it take for me to gain like 5 pounds?

Also how many reps should i do and how many sets should i do it. (Im skinny and trying to gain weight) so im assuming low reps, high weight, and do it 3 times per workout?

And say for example i do 3 sets of a leg press, should i do these sets one after another, or should i workout other muscles in between my leg press sets?
wow thanks a lot, but how long should i spend in the gym on my training days?

There are a few things you should change about your plan.

First, you should take creatine twice a day: once as soon as you wake up, and once immediately after workout.

Also, take protein shakes in the morning and after workout. Depending on your starting weight, you will need raise your protein intake accordingly.

For me, I weigh 175. In order to gain weight I need about 185 -200 grams of protein a day. The rule of thumb is 1.5grams of protein to each pound.

Your workout:
I usually do what is called “splits.” This means each day is a different muscle set.
For example:
Mon-Chest
Tues-Legs
Wed-Off
Thurs- Biceps and Triceps
Friday-Back
Sat & Sun- Off

Since you are wanting to build mass, you would want to do low reps with high weight. There are a lot of different ways to go about this.

My current bench press workout looks like this:
5@50% of my max
4@60% of my max
2@70% of my max
5@80% of my max
3@85% of my max
x@90% of my max

The last set I do as many as I can. ALWAYS HAVE A SPOTTER!

For things like biceps and triceps I pick a weight I can do 10 times, with the last two being fairly hard. I do 3-4 sets of each exercise.

To answer your question, with proper training, diet, and the supplements you listed, you could safely expect 5 pounds in 10 days.

When I first got on creatine, I gained 14 pounds in around 4 weeks. Granted, some of that is what is called “water weight” but after a few more weeks the “bloated” look went away.

EDIT: I usually do about five exercises for each muscle group. Ideally your workout would be no longer than an hour and half.
