Cardio + Weight Training?

Question by : Cardio + Weight Training?
Hi, I’m a 18 year old male. My height is 5’11 and I weigh 186 lbs. I’m trying to lose some weight (at least 40-50 lbs), hence I’ve been going to 24 hour fitness center for a month or so. Due to my lack of knowledge in losing weight, I’ve been only doing cardio (40 minutes of walking + jogging) and sit-ups (at least 200 or more).

However, according to some source (I research a lot), weight training is recommended in order to lose weight. So, here comes the questions:

1. Should I do cardio first or weight training first?
2. What kind or type of weight training should I do? (Note: I’m trying to cut down the stomach fat & thigh fat)
3. For how long? (Both cardio & weight training)
4. What are some recommended foods/vegetables/fruits to eat while on a diet? (I know that chicken breast & egg whites are good, but any other food besides these?)
5. Should I eat before workout or after workout?
6. Estimated time to lose 40-50 lbs?

P.S. I’d like to hear from experienced body builders or fitness trainers only. Thanks in advance.

P.P.S. Please do not give me ads regarding diet pills and other related stuffs. I’m only interested in losing weight by working out.

Answers:

1. Weight training first ALWAYS unless u do cardio many hours before the weight training.

2.Compound lifts such as bench, squats, rows, pullups, powercleans, etc. what heavy compound lifts do is release certain hormones in your body that promote overall muscle growth and burns more fat when you do it… dont do isolated movements such as bicep curls untill u do these.

3.Weight training anywhere between 30 min to 1 hour 30 min and cardio i suggest doing high intensity interval training (HIIT) for speeding up your metabolism if u want that shredded look.

4.Oatmeal, sweet potatoes, 100% whole grain bread are complex carbs that u should consume… stay away from simple carbs such as bread, pastries, pasta etc unless ur an ectomorph

5.ALWAYS consume protein and carbs before and after workouts they are the most important meals of the day.

6. It depends on ur current body fat % but if u want to lose 40-50lbs i assume ur body fat % is high right now but otherwise u cant tell because i dont know ur work ethic and how dedicated ur diet is…

Go to bodybuilding.com there are tons of articles there about what u need to do to get in shape
