Weight loss questions?

I’m about 6’2 and 250 lbs and my goal is to lose 50 pounds. The problem is that it’s hard to find a real weight loss plan, some sites say cardio, others say don’t do cardio, etc. I was planning on just going with diet and exercise, but it seems like there are so many conditionals. If you cut back on eating your body thinks it’s starving, and due to me still being in high school small meals throughout the day is not possible. So how can i solve this? Another issue is that while i was just planning on doing the eliptical machine for 40ish minutes 4 times a week i hear people saying that you MUST weight lift or you lose muscle, or that just cardio is bad for you. What exactly CAN i do to lose weight?

Buy a Jillian Michaels book. I have the book called Winning By Losing, and it helped out a lot! She points out the mental factors, as well as the scientific make up of our body. Then towards the end she incorporates food and exercise with excuses of diet plans and workout plans aswell.
