Lifting weights before bed?
Question by Active Ingredients!: Lifting weights before bed?
Okay, I’m trying to get some muscle so I decided to lift weights before bed every night.
I (currently) do 25 reps on each arm. I started doing 10 the first week, 15 the next, etc.
After those 25 reps, I do 20 push ups and I’m done for the night.
So, in total, I’d say this “workout” lasts less than 10 minutes. The weights are 25lbs each. I also exercise during the day; I jog, cycle to work and school, and walk my dog.
I just want to know if I’m overdoing it or not, since I heard that muscles need to rest, even though I don’t think I’m straining them too much.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are younger than 15-16 years old, you should not be lifting weights but rather be doing body weight exercises like pushups, pullups, situps, etc.
If you are 16 and older (some 15 year olds can also workout), you should be working out every single body part once a week. It seems like you are only hitting the biceps and chest. This will cause you to lean forward because your back muscles are now weaker than your chest muscles. You need to be doing 3-4 exercises per body part with 3 sets per exercise and 6-10 reps per set for muscle hypertrophy.
As for your situation, it doesn’t seem like you are overdoing it. But if you are a beginner definitely start out slow like you are doing and when you feel like you’re ready to take on something a little bit more challenging, try the program I mentioned above. Oh and about muscles needing rest, if you are beginner lift every other day to give those muscles a rest. Also, keep up the cardio as this will keep the fat off.
