Q&A: Losing fat and building muscle at the same time?
Question by John: Losing fat and building muscle at the same time?
Is it true that you can’t do both at the same time? I read somewhere that you can’t, but I’ve also hear that you can. A bit of history, I used to be really fat, but in the summer of 2012 (age 16) I dropped 30 pounds. But being this wasn’t exactly enough, so I’ve been trying to build muscle ever since. The only problem is that I didn’t get rid of all of my fat, so even though I’ve been getting more muscular for the past year or so, I still look a little chubby. Losing fat is easy, and building muscle is easy, but I’ve been having trouble doing both at the same time. I have no idea what my % body fat is (I mis-measured once and had a false anorexia-scare), but its enough to make me look fat. I’m not fat, but I still feel fat when I touch and look at myself. I’m an 18 y/o male vegan and I often go a few miles a day and lift weights 3 times a week. Anyways, I’d like to lose more fat and build more muscle by the time college starts in Fall 2014, any tips?

You cant do both at the same time. Usually when people try to build muscle they do what is called bulking up that is overeating with lots of protein. But the problem is that you gain fat at the same time. and the weight training which is low intensity exercise just makes you more hungry.
Losing fat on the other hand depends on you cutting back your diet and cutting out fats and junk food along with doing high intensity cardio a few times per week.
So take your choice as to what you want to do. I would opt to lose the fat before trying to gain muscle.
